Sunday on the road

We left Seattle yesterday and stayed the night in Boise, we encountered snow and slick roads through the blue mountains.  We swam at the pool at the hotel after dinner.  We loaded back up again for the journey home this morning just a little bit more stuff then when we drove to Seattle.  We had a great time and had clear roads.  We stopped in Salt Lake to see Scott and Kristoni who were in town for Thanksgiving.

Family Pictures

Since we were all going to be together we planned to do family photos today.  We were keeping an eye on the weather and it rained all.day.long!!  The photographer was not equipped to take photos in the rain so she had to cancel.  The Fife's called their home teacher to come snap a few photos and we showed up at a friend of theirs from the ward who had an outdoor gazebo and took some photos!  Who knows when we will all be together again,  so I am glad that we did it despite the conditions.  We had a yummy dinner at Spaghetti Factory and then saw Big Hero 6, we loved it.

Thanksgiving

We have so many things to be thankful for!!  We were lucky to be able to spend Thanksgiving with so many people that we love.

Fun

We have had fun the past two days with Genevieve.  The girls have loved getting to know and play with her.  Today we went to an indoor jump place.  The girls spent a lot of time jumping into this pit of foam blocks.

American girl lunch

 

We  had a fun lunch at the American Girl doll store today.  Vanessa drove over and joined us for her lunch break.  We did some shopping after eating, the girls had been saving their money.

Seahawks game

Brandon and Justin went to the Seahawks vs. Arizona game.  We had fun watching it at home.  They won 19-3.  Vanessa was so into the game at one point Tabitha said, "I didn't think girls were football fans!"

Seattle

 

We left yesterday afternoon to begin our drive to Seattle to spend the week with Brandon's family.  We picked Brandon up in Park City with a brief stop in Salt Lake, Winston gets car sick, and stopped for dinner in Boise with no stopping in between!  The girls were kept busy watching DVD's.  We had dinner and got gas and continued on to Pendleton where we stayed the night.  We had 2 hours of snowy, icy, wet roads in the dark which was pretty stressful for Brandon but we made it safely.

This morning Brandon woke up early and tired to sneak out of the room but we all woke up.  It was 6 AM and breakfast was served at 6:30.  We got ourselves ready and loaded up the car, ate breakfast and hit the road.  We hit a snow storm in Snoqualmie Pass but made it through before it got any worse.  We think getting up and on the road early was a blessing because it just got worse after we made it through.  We stopped for the bathroom at Snoqualmie Falls, where Brandon and I got engaged and we were excited to get to Brandon's parents house!!

Blueberry

Brandon got a truck through work so we decided to sell one of our cars.  We bought this Nissan Pathfinder 11 years ago and it has been a great car for us.  Someone from Brandon's work bought it so he will get to see it everyday.  The girls named both of our cars a few years ago, we are going to miss Blueberry.   Brandon had to work today, so I took this photo as we were heading out to church.

Ragnar

I completed my first Ragnar this weekend with my Lucas cousins.  My cousin Lindsey proposed the idea to us all in the spring and I started training.  I have never been a runner, and when I began I would just run a 1/2 mile and last week I was up to 7 miles!  It felt really good to accomplish this and to do it with family.  We ran in memory of my grandpa.  My cousin put together this story and we put it on other runners car and were even featured on the news tonight!  My knee started hurting after my first leg, my IT band, but I had to just keep going.  I am hoping that I can stretch and strengthen it and continue to run.  I loved running with my brother Scott and two sisters, Kristen and Kathryn.  Kristen is 16 weeks pregnant!!

During World War II, hundreds of clerks were responsible for the important communications of the Army; the information they recorded and exchanged was vital to the war efforts. They slept in fox holes, suffered the elements and endured the worst of war. During the invasion of the Philippines, these brave men exited boats, amid gunfire and shells, running through waist-high water onto the beaches, carrying their typewriters over their heads. These men risked their lives to keep communications open.

Our grandfather Kenneth Lucas (1924-2014) was one of these brave men, and in his memory we run this race. We think of him running, carrying his typewriter onto the beaches, doing whatever was necessary to serve his country.
